Everyone Matters to Recruitment & Retention

Surely you’ve heard or maybe even experienced this statement before: People Quit People, Not Companies.

John Maxwell said, “People come in through the door because they have a reason they want to be part of the company. But their desire for ‘greener pastures’ is often motivated by the need to get away from someone.”

Recruitment and retention responsibility never falls solely on the Human Resource Department.  Well, it shouldn’t anyway because that’s not going to work!  Since people quit people, we have to offer a culture and experience the best folks want to be a part of then stay a part of!

In Leadership Gold, it’s put this way…some sources estimate that as many as 65% of people leaving companies do so because of their managers… The ‘company’ doesn’t do anything negative to them. People do. Sometimes coworkers cause problems that prompt people to leave. But often the people who alienate employees are their direct supervisors.

As leaders, we have to uphold the organization’s values and standards then address any issue that could be leading to what John’s referring to.

Whether you’re a high level executive, manager, or supervisor your actions set an example on a daily basis and each interaction you have with the team, clients, and customers affects recruitment & retention.

Where are you hitting it out of the park?  Is there an area you could be more effective in when it comes to your interactions increasing recruitment and retention in your organization?  I (Cindy) would love to hear about it!
